Helen Virginia Abell, 91

Helen Virginia Abell, 91, of Birdseye, Indiana, passed away at 10:25 a.m. Thursday, January 22, 2015, at her residence in Birdseye.

She was born December 5, 1923 in Mentor, Indiana, to Vernie and Rosella Ida (Crawford) Pfaff. She married Forrest L. Abell on October 6, 1945 in English, Indiana.

Helen was retired from the Purdue Extension Food Service Program where she worked as a food nutritionist. She was a member of the Birdseye Christian Church; a charter member of the Birdseye Order of the Eastern Star #590; V.F.W. Post #2366 Auxiliary in Huntingburg; and D.A.V. Auxiliary in Jasper.

She was preceded in death by:  her husband, Forrest L. Abell, who passed away January 23, 2012; two brothers, Farrel Pfaff and Gene Pfaff; and one great grandchild, Caleb Deel.

She is survived by two daughters and two son-in-laws, Ava (Rick) Gehlhausen of Ferdinand and Ann L. (Michael) Deel of Birdseye; five grandchildren, Ryan Gehlhausen, Alicia Harmon, Kyla Gehlhausen, Adam Deel and Jenna Deel; six great grandchildren, Rayna Gehlhausen, Rylynn Gehlhausen, Hunter Chappell, Jaxon Deel, Aiden Klem and Abel Klem.

 

 

Funeral services for Helen Virginia Abell will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 26, 2015, at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial to follow at Mentor Cemetery near Birdseye. Pastor Ron Hickman will officiate at the services.

 

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday, the day of the funeral. Memorial donations can be made to the Order of the Eastern Star #590.
