Maurice F. Mendel, 92

Maurice F. Mendel, 92, of Jasper , Indiana, passed away at 9:40 p.m. on Monday, November 10, 2014, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper, Indiana.

Maurice was born in Jasper, IN on January 19, 1922 to Frank and Agatha (Gardner) Mendel. He married Eileen Turner on May 21, 1949 at St Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, IN . She preceded him in death on April 19, 2003.

Maurice worked as a financial comptroller for the Jasper Cabinet Company from 1957 until his retirement in 1988. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy who served in both WWII and Korea. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper and the Jasper Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed watching the Indianapolis Colts and Pacers, Notre Dame Football, Indiana University Sports, and the Jasper Wildcats. He enjoyed making leather crafts.

He is survived by one daughter, Mary Lee Mendel, Waggaman, La.; one son, Donald Mendel of Jasper; one sister, Martina Erny of Jasper;  nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death besides his wife are two sisters, Margaret Schum and Petronella Rothenberg, and two brothers, Sylvester and Jerome Mendel.

Funeral services for Maurice F. Mendel will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, November 14, 2014, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper, Indiana. The VFW Post #673 will conduct military gravesite rites.

Friends may call from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2014, at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper.
