An Eckerty man was believed to be under the influence of alcohol when he drove into the side of a house along Schnellville Road Wednesday afternoon.

According to deputies, 19-year-old Steven Tyler Lang, of North Williams Ridge Road, was southbound in a 1999 Chevrolet S-10 truck on 1025E just north of Schnellville Road at about 3:14 p.m. He was driving at a high rate of speed when his vehicle left the roadway and traveled about 550 feet before striking the home at 10257 Schnellville Road.

The truck ended up going under a deck into the lower level of the home belonging to Tina Madden.

Lang was transported from scene of the crash by ambulance to a landing zone that was set up at the Birdseye Town Park. He was picked up by a helicopter and transported to The University Of Louisville for treatment of his injuries. The extent and severity of his injuries is not known at this time.

The residence was occupied at the time of the collision but the two occupants were not injured. The house is uninhabitable due to the damages received in the accident. Deputies estimated those damages to be about $50,000 or more.

The truck was totaled in the accident.

The crash is still under investigation and deputies believe that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

Charges are pending in regards to the outcome of the investigation.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by Indiana State Police, Birdseye Fire Department, Schnellville Fire Department, Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services, Dubois REC, and a Berg’s Garage wrecker.

  1. Sounds like the community needs to take their town back. City gov has control over the city but by the people, for the people. Remember you voted them in, you can take them out. United you stand, divided you fall. It’s as easy as a petition.
