Jasper Mayor Terry Seitz announced his intent to run for a second term in the 2015 Indiana municipal elections.

First elected in November of 2011, Seitz said the underlying reason for seeking another term is simple.

“Unfinished business. I understand the natural flow of government is at a very tempered pace especially anything involving major policy shifts, ordinances, public projects or funding. While some of the ideas I had three years ago have been put into action, many are only just underway with others still in the conceptual stage. In less than three years we have accomplished so much, including significant public projects as well as many day-to-day ones improving processes.”

Seitz lists five community accomplishments and five accomplishments of local governance during his first term.

Community Accomplishments

  • Creation of the Jasper Downtown & Riverfront Master Plan and current development efforts
  • Acquisition of The Parklands of Jasper property and preparation to sell other city property
  • Securing a $2,000,000 grant for future development of the City’s trail system
  • Applying for a state Shovel-ready designation for more than 100 acres within the City limits
  • Applying for a Historic Landmark District designation for Jasper’s downtown

Local Governance Accomplishments

  • Leading the City through the 2012 water emergency
  • Creating the Department of Community Development & Planning
  • Spearheading adoption of new, money-saving standards for private gas and water lines
  • Engaging Jasper’s citizens in a vision and the governing process
  • Reviewing and proposed rewriting of Jasper’s Zoning and Sub-division Control ordinances

“I have often said as mayor of Jasper I get to experience what some mayors only get to dream. I’m grateful to my wife, Deena, my daughters, Kristen Ruhe and Lori Werner and their families for all their support. To the residents, visitors, our businesses and the powerful workforce in Jasper — I’ll repeat what I said a few short years ago — I believe Jasper’s best days are still ahead.”
