Dangerous intersection claims Huntingburg woman’s life and seriously injures another

Dale, Spencer County:  Today at approximately 12:45 CDT a two vehicle crash at the intersection of US 231 and SR 62 killed one person and seriously injured another.

Preliminary investigation reveals that a white 1999 Chevrolet pick-up truck driven by Junior R. Small, 74, Huntingburg was traveling northeast on SR 62 at the intersection with US 231 when he failed to yield the right of way to a north bound 2007 International semi-tractor trailer, driven by Leroy R. Seitz, 56, Jasper. Small’s pick-up was hit on the right (passenger’s) side by the semi-tractor trailer.

The passenger in Small’s truck, Shelly Kline, 29, Huntingburg was pronounced dead at the scene by the Spencer County Coroner’s Office.  Small was transported to Jasper Memorial and then airlifted to St. Mary’s in Evansville where he is listed in serious condition.  Seitz was not injured.

The 1999 pick-up was a total loss and the semi-tractor was heavily damaged.  The intersection at US 231 and SR 62 was closed for approximately 45 minutes while crews processed and cleaned up the scene.
