Dubois County Medication Collection Day this Saturday

photo-1471864190281-a93a3070b6deKeeping old medications is unsafe for you and your family so get rid of them properly and safely on Dubois County Medication Collection Day.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 22 to dispose of expired, unwanted and unused medications at three locations throughout the county. Ferdinand Fire Station, 221 E. 4th Street, and Huntingburg Fire Station, 501 E. 1st Street will collect from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The Jasper State Police Post, located at 2209 Newton Street, will collect from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Huntingburg Police Station accepts pharmaceuticals anytime year-round in the drop box in their lobby at 503 E. 1st Street.

Expired, unwanted, and unused medications, vitamins, ointments, syrups, drops and aerosols not in pressurized containers will be accepted at the collection sites. No sharps, infectious materials (anything containing bodily fluids), or waste will be collected. Sites are open to Dubois County households only.

Law enforcement officers are present at each location to oversee disposal, as well as volunteers and staff from the other Collection Day sponsors. Residents with questions may contact the Dubois County Solid Waste District at 812-482-7865.

Sponsors include: Indiana State Police, Dubois County Sheriff’s Department, Substance Abuse Council, Fire Stations, TRI-CAP RSVP, Habig Older Americans Center, Dubois County Solid Waste Management District and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
