Earl H. Knies, 88, Celestine, Indiana, passed away at 12:21 p.m. on Friday, July 22, 2016, at Cathedral Health Care Center in Jasper.

Earl was born in Celestine on September 1, 1927 to Anton Sr. and Catherine (Humbert) Knies. He married Delphine Heldman on July 9, 1949 in St. Celestine Catholic Church.

Earl was a United States Army veteran. Earl retired from Coastal Corporation, where he had worked for 31 years. He was a self-employed mechanic. He was a member of St. Celestine Catholic Church, the V.F.W. Post #673, and the Celestine Community Club. He enjoyed reading and doing puzzles, and he loved spending time with his dog Chico.

He is survived by his wife, Delphine Knies of Celestine; three daughters, Audrey Haas and her husband Cal of Carmel, Valerie Frank of Celestine and Sarah Kidd and her husband Brian of Park Ridge, Ill.; two sons, Stan Knies and his wife Diane of Jasper and Don Knies and his wife Sharon of Jasper; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren,
one step-great-granddaughter; four sisters, Shirley Buechler and her husband Robert of Celestine, Pat Hopf and her husband Jim of Celestine, Judy Traylor of Celestine, and Virginia Kapp and her husband Jim of Jasper; two brothers, Cletus Knies and his wife Joan of Jasper and Roman Knies and his wife Wanda of Ireland.

Preceding him in death besides his parents are one son-in-law, Skip Place, one sister, Clara Mae Knies, and five brothers, Eugene, Anthony Jr., Gary and Elmer Knies and Leo Knies, who died in infancy.

Funeral services for Earl H. Knies will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at St. Celestine Catholic Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The V.F.W. Post #673 will conduct military graveside rites.

Friends may call from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2016, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.
