James R. “Jim” Gramelspacher, 93, Jasper, passed away at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at Cathedral Health Care Center in Jasper.

Jim was born in Troy, Indiana on May 15, 1923 to Frank and Theresa (Linne) Gramelspacher. He married Mildred “Mick” Brown on September 5, 1942 in the Ferdinand Chapel. They celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary on September 5th, 2016.

Jim was the owner/operator of Jim’s Plumbing and Heating Company in Jasper for 43 years. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Jim was known by all for his kindness and big heart. He was always willing and ready to help a friend or stranger in need. In his younger years he loved to hunt and enjoyed fishing at Idlewild lake, playing cards, and spending time sharing stories with family and friends. A man of strong faith, we have peace knowing he will rest with his Father in Heaven.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred “Mick” Gramelspacher of Jasper; two daughters, Kay Reger and husband Lanny of Islamorada, Fla. and Judy Leinenbach and husband Allen of South Bend; one son, Jerry Gramelspacher and wife Gail of Jasper; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were sisters Sr. Anna Gramelspacher O.S.B, Mary Wirthwein, Bernadine Mullis, Helen Weddle, an infant sister – Anna Louise Gramelspacher, and one brother Francis “Franny” Gramelspacher.

Funeral services for James Gramelspacher will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2016, in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, with entombment to follow in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum in Jasper.

Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 23, 201, at the Becher Kluesner Downtown Chapel In Jasper, IN.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the Jasper Knights of Columbus, the American Heart Association, Cathedral Health Care Center, or a favorite charity.
