Overturned car, trapped driver leads to drunken driving arrest

A Jasper man was charged with drunken driving after authorities found him trapped in a car that was overturned along U.S. 231 south of Jasper early Saturday morning.

According to police, a Dubois County deputy found the 2014 Dodge Charger overturned along U.S. 231 south of County Road 100S/162 Bypass at about 1:41 a.m.

The Jasper Volunteer Fire Department was called to the scene due to smoke coming from the vehicle and the driver, Fernando Rodriguez Flores, 25, of Portersville Road, Jasper, was unable to free himself.

Before firefighters arrived, officers on the scene were able to maneuver Flores from the vehicle. He was taken to Memorial Hospital for medical clearance. While there, it was determined Flores’ blood alcohol content was .24 percent.

After being medically cleared, Flores was charged with Class C misdemeanor operating while intoxicated and operator never licensed. He was booked into the Dubois County Security Center.

The car was considered a total loss.

Indiana State Police and Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services assisted Dubois County Sheriff’s Department and Jasper Police Department at the scene.

  1. Another unlicensed – never licensed – driver, and likely an illegal alien as well. Why do we want to “protect” these people in so many Sanctuary Cities and elsewhere? Here is a perfect example of how it should work – that he is immediately incarcerated until scheduled for deportation.

    1. Couldn’t agree with your statement more. These people are putting innocent American lives in harms way day in and day out. ENOUGH ALREADY!

    2. Let’s not be so judgmental. We know nothing of this young man. Also remember there are many Latino people living in Dubois County, working in Dubois County and contributing to the economy here just as there is other people from other countries.

      1. Anonymous, your input is not needed. Listen to yourself. Drunk driving, no license, and unlikely insurance and he is Driving the same roads my children do. Once one of THESE contributors to our economy makes their negative contribution to your finances and family health you will be one of the first asking for a handout.

  2. I agree also. January 20th sure is taking a long time to get here. I would love to go on a “Build the Wall” vacation excursion if someone were to offer them.

  3. And this is an example of why so many people are so quick to judge, not all “illegal” are bad but they are all stuck in the same category because some of them have to go and act a fool, just like this! I believe if they are here working, obeying our laws they deserve to be here, the drug runners, or people breaking our laws should not be given the same rights. They do need to make it easier to become a citizen and we wouldn’t have so many “illegals”. Also people who say ” do it the right way” has never been there, 20 years is way to long!

  4. Whether you want to believe it or not, it’s not just hispanics (who may or may not be illegal) that drive without ever being licensed! I know of 2 right off hand, and they were white men who caused serious accidents! Don’t be so gosh darn judgmental and self-righteous!!

  5. Because in this county, only hispanics drink and drive. For sure. I have a good idea, let’s build that wall after all. And put all the bigots on the other side. The agriculture and turkey industries would collapse without these people you are so eager to get rid of. Is this kid an idiot? Sure. He’s a 25 year old man. Most of them are. Does he need consequences? Yup. Does he need to be vilified as representative of all hispanics? Guess that answer is yes in Dubois County.

  6. All I can say to that comment about him needed to be deported, this is the exact attitude that doesn’t represent our county. We can’t judge this man. People do stupid things. He’s 25 year old young adult. He is going to have his fair share of mistakes like anyone else.

    1. And when their fair share of mistakes involves injuring your family while driving with BAC 3 times over legal I hope you have the same feelings and if they are even ILLEGALLY here please go so far as to shelter them in your home. Illegals are just that. ILLEGAL. Break the law, pay the price.

  7. To the one or those who misunderstood my point – it’s not about somehow vilifying all Hispanics or passing judgment on a human beings who simply “made a mistake.” Attitudes like yours and the Sanctuary City folk are a big reason for the illegal alien problem today. Assuming he IS an illegal, besides breaking the law here with this OWI and the potential ramifications, et al, he’s also breaking the law by not being licensed after first breaking the law by coming here illegally. When these folks are arrested under these plus any and all other criminal circumstances – drugs, shoplifting, assault, etc – that’s one way to slowly but surely detain them to be deported, notwithstanding consequences for their crimes. We’re not going to be able to deport 11M of them, but we can do the illegals who commit the crimes – yes, even the “mistake” OWI kind that are all-too-often excused as part of “youth.” Hogwash.

  8. I look forward to seeing equal outrage on all further instances of drunken driving in Dubois County, Mrs. Green et al. Otherwise, your comments simply come off as what they probably are-racist.

I’m sorry that you feel emboldened to make such remarks by Donald Trump. He does not represent a great role model. You can do better.
