Upholstery producer Best Home Furnishings held a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of a $3.1 million facility expansion.
Officials expect the new building to be complete by August of 2016. The newly constructed 100,000-square-foot expansion will boost the size of the company’s overall facilities to 1.2 million square feet. The building will allow the
company to move production of highly tailored products, which will create more efficient processes in other areas, the company said.
The expansion will also be a catalyst for new job growth.
“The new plant will enable Best to streamline and realign manufacturing processes for even greater efficiencies,” said Brian Lange, president of Best Home Furnishings. “Our last expansion came in 2000, and since then we have doubled our sales. Best can only grow so much within our walls, and the time has come to expand to facilitate further
growth.”
The company currently has nearly 1,000 employees in Ferdinand, Jasper, Cannelton, and Paoli, and Lange said Best Home Furnishings opted to expand in its hometown because “the area continues to supply us with very skilled individuals who possess a strong work ethic. Ferdinand is where we want to be; it’s our home.”
Town of Ferdinand representatives, as well as several retailers from Ohio, were on hand to help celebrate the growth of the family owned company.
“Founded with humble roots, Best Home Furnishings is a true American dream success story,” town council president Ken Sicard said. “To be one of the largest furniture manufacturers in the country and continue to invest in their Ferdinand home, we couldn’t be prouder.”
Established in 1962 and family owned and operated, Best Home Furnishings is one of the largest furniture manufacturers in the world, ranking 15th on Furniture/Today’s Key Sources for the U.S. Furniture Market. The combination of the company’s five “Power of Best” standards— quality, speed, selection, value and made in the USA —are unmatched by any other upholstered residential furniture manufacturer. Product lines include stationary sofas, reclining sofas, chairs, recliners and glide rockers.

Good luck with the expansion. It’s good to hear that locally owned American businesses can still be so successful; especially in today’s world of mega-corporations which control almost every part of the economy.
It’s an inspiration to anyone else striving to be their best.
