Betty Davis Staff, 89

Betty Davis Staff, 89, died on Friday, May 14, 2017, in Brookside Village, Jasper.
She was born in Kansas City on November 1, 1927, to the late Carl A. and Lelia L. Davis and was their only child.
Betty graduated from MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Ill., in June 1948 with a bachelor’s degree in English and drama. In August of the same year she married Ens. William A. (Bill) Staff (USN). She moved with him to Pensacola, Fla., and afterward to San Diego, Cali., Corpus Christie, Texas, San Diego, Cali., Oak Harbor, Wash., Champaign, Ill., Norfolk, Vir., Shenandoah, Iowa and Evansville, where she lived for twenty-seven years before retiring to Fairhope, Ala. in 1988. During a twenty-one-year career with Evansville-Vanderburgh County School Corporation, she taught speech therapy in several elementary schools and drama and English at Reitz High School. She was an active amateur thespian for many years with Evansville Civic Theater and was a long-time member and elder of First Presbyterian Church. In Fairhope, she enjoyed her involvement in several civic organizations, especially the Eastern Shore Art Center where she served on the board of directors and as board president. In 2006, she moved with Bill to Huntingburg to be near her eldest son’s family.
She is survived by three sons, Noll A. (Ann), Eric Todd, and Kirk D. (Linda) of St Anthony, Nashville, Tenn., and the Columbus, Ohio area respectively; one step-grandson, three grandsons, and two granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren.
Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg has been entrusted with the disposition arrangements. There will be no funeral services at this time.
