Betty J. Brown, 87, of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 6:23 p.m. on Wednesday, September 17, 2014, at home.

Betty Jean (Peak) Brown was born in Indianapolis on June 27, 1927 to Harry and Gladys (Whaley) Peak. She was raised, however, at her uncle’s farm in Bretzville, Indiana.

She graduated from Japer High School in 1945, and married Clarence R “Brownie” Brown on April 8, 1948 in Trinity Evangelical and Reformed Church (now United Church of Christ) in Jasper. Her husband preceded her in death on December 20, 2012 after 64 years of marriage.

Mrs. Brown worked at the Television Center in Jasper, and retired from OB/GYN Associates in 2010 at the age of 83.

She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Jasper.

Most importantly, she was a wonderful mother and grandmother. Her hobbies included mushroom hunting and playing cards with friends. She will not only be missed by her family, but also by her friends Jack and June Astrike and her best friend since eighth grade, Mrs Edwin (Margie) Schneider.

She is survived by one daughter, Rebecca Mathies and her husband Darren, of Jasper; two sons, Dr. Terry Brown and his wife Betty A., of Jasper and Marvin Brown and his wife Misty, of Fishers; nine grandchildren, Krista Brown, Jonathan (Jeb) Brown, Katie Brown, Jayme (Brown) Beadle, Nikki (Brown) Hershik, Kelsey Brown, Nathan Brown, Claire Mathies, and Emily Mathies; four great-grandchildren, Mitchell Brown, Henry and William Beadle, and baby boy Hershik due within a month; one sister, Mildred Peak Berry of New Albany; two sisters-in-law;, Eleanor Peak of Franklin, Ind., and Clarice (Brown) Preslopsky, Orlando, Fla.

Preceding her in death besides her husband was one sister, Helen Peak Abell, and two brothers, Frank Peak and Earl “Bud” Peak.

Funeral services for Betty J Brown will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2014, at Trinity United Church of Christ in Jasper, IN, with entombment to follow at Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum. Pastor Jane Hillman will officiate.

Friends may call from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 19, 2014, at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Church of Christ, or the Lange-Fuhs Cancer Center in memory of Betty Brown.
