Brother -vs- brother in opening season game

by Kirk Kendall

The Dubois County Bombers will be opening the season Thursday, June 2 with an intriguing matchup.  The Nashville Outlaws will be coming to town, and the headline lies within both teams’ middle infield.

Sophomore shortstop Grant Zawadzki will be playing for the Bombers, and on the Outlaws is his brother Troy, also a shortstop.  Grant is a 5’11” business major at Cleveland State Community College in Tennessee.  Troy is a Senior at Carson Newman College, also located in Tennessee.

“It will be interesting,” Grant said about the upcoming game. “He’s older than me, but hopefully we (the Bombers) can come out on top.”

Baseball talent seems to be a given in the Zawadzki family, who are natives of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts.  Their older brother Lance is a professional baseball player, currently playing for the Omaha Storm, the Class AAA affiliate of the Kansas City Royals.  Lance is also a middle infielder, spending time at both shortstop and second base.

The two youngest Zawadzki brothers will be facing off at 7:15 pm EDT on Thursday, June 2 at League Stadium in Huntingburg.  It is the Prospect League’s Opening Night, with both the Bombers and Outlaws looking to start the season out on the right foot.
