Cathy Lane crash caused by medical condition

A crash on Cathy Lane may have occurred when a driver had a medical condition Monday afternoon.

Jasper police responded to an SUV running off the curve on Cathy Lane at about 2:36 p.m. According to police, it appeared the 73-year-old Jasper man was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer when he had some type of medical issue and drove into the guardrail of the 90-degree curve in the roadway.

The vehicle then crossed the centerline of the road and struck a mailbox on the south side of Cathy Lane before coming to rest on the eastbound lane.

The driver was transported to Memorial Hospital by ambulance.

The guardrail owned by the City of Jasper had about $500 in damages and the mailbox owned by Meyer Distributing had about $100 in damages. The SUV had about $7,500 in damages, police said.
