Chainsaw training for woodland owners offered

The Four Rivers Forestry Committee and the IDNR Division of Forestry is offering “Chainsaw Training for Woodland Owners” on Saturday, March 2, 2019, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST.  

The registration fee for the training is $40. Class size is limited to 12 participants. Participants should meet at 8:45 a.m. EST at the Pike State Forest office, located at 5994 E State Road 364, Winslow IN.

The chainsaw training will be taught by Joe Glenn, certified trainer.  The class will have classroom and outdoor demonstrations of personal protective equipment, chainsaw safety features, and introduction to felling and TSI techniques.

Participants must be 18 or older and should dress for the weather conditions. They should bring a hardhat with a face guard, hearing protection, and boots. If their hardhat doesn’t have a face guard or ear muffs, they may bring safety glasses and ear plugs instead. Every participant will have the opportunity to fell a tree.

Lunch, snacks, and drinks will be provided to all pre-registered participants. Door prizes, including personal safety equipment, will be awarded at the end of the training. Door prizes are donated by John’s Tractor, and Tom’s Lawn, Garden, and Appliances.

Advance registrations are a must, as the class size is limited to 12 participants.
