Charles Richard “Dick” Nicholson, 90

Charles Richard “Dick” Nicholson, age 90, of Jasper, passed away at 12:04 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2014, in Deaconess Gateway Hospital, Newburgh, Indiana.

Dick Nicholson was also known as “Candy Man” for his cotton candy at venues around Dubois County.

He was born at Columbus, Ohio, March 9, 1923 to Charles A. and Lydia (Pretz) Nicholson.

Dick Nicholson was a Navy Veteran serving during WWII. He was also a professional photographer; photographing many wedding and photo’s for newspaper articles.

He is a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church, Charter member of the Dubois County Navy Club Ship # 90, Jasper Knight of Columbus, American Legion Post # 147 and V.F.W. Post # 673.

He is survived by one sister, Ruth Ann Hinkle and husband Ralph, of Flint, Mich.; caregiver, Ken Schuetter, of Jasper; and nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death is one sister, Mildred Schwinghammer and two brothers, Dr. Arnold Nicholson and Harold Nicholson.

Funeral services for Richard Nicholson will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2014, in Precious Blood Catholic Church with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery. V.F.W. Post # 673 will conduct military grave side rites.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper of which was his home as a child.

A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday by Dubois County Navy Club Ship # 90 at the funeral home.
