Christmas Stroll tree lighting

Sarah Reller, 5, of Stendal, accompanied her mom, Jessica Reller, to the tree lighting ceremony held Thursday at Huntingburg’s Old Town Hall. Jessica said she grew up in Huntingburg so she’s made it a tradition to come back for the stroll each year.

Members of the St. Mary’s Church Youth Praise Choir sang hymns and Christmas carols before the tree lighting. A crowd of about 100 gathered for the ceremony and concert.

Head elf Emily Meyer scanned the crowd looking for a volunteer to help say the magic words and wave the magic want to light the tree.

Emily Meyer recruited Sarah from the crowd to yell the “Merry Christmas” and wave the magic wand to light the Christmas tree. It took two tries.

The Christmas Tree sits on the back patio of the Old Town Hall overlooking Market Street Park.
