Christmas Tree Salute

Jasper’s city hall has a patriotic theme going with this year’s Christmas Tree. Mayor Terry Seitz asked the American Legion if they would like to decorate the tree this year so members of the women’s auxiliary took on the task. The tree was decorated Monday evening and should be able to be seen from the Downtown Square.

Lisa Kern and Sherri Messier viewed the tree from across the second floor of Jasper City Hall Monday night and gave Angie Brooks instructions on what other decorations needed to be completed on the tree. Photos by Matthew Crane.

Lisa Kern placed an ornament onto the tree Monday evening at the Jasper City Hall. Lisa is the manager of the Jasper American Legion Post 147 and member of the women’s auxiliary. She and four other members, Susie Neukam, Ann Messier, Sherri Messier and Angie Brooks, put up the patriotic tree at the bequest of Jasper Mayor Terry Seitz.

The women ordered these gliders and added hangers to create ornaments for the tree in Jasper City Hall. They also painted ornaments in red, white and blue and crafted the long garland by hand to create all the needed ornaments of the 12-foot tall tree.

Mayor Seitz stopped to take a picture of the women before heading into the Jasper Utility Service Board meeting Monday evening. From left: Ann Messier, Lisa Kern, Sherri Messier, Angie Brooks and Susie Neukam.

Sherri Messier placed a flag as one of the final touches of the tree’s decorations. Sherri also created the tree’s topper, a patriotic top hat.

Angie Brooks added a flag to finish the decorations of the tree that can be seen in the second story window of the Jasper City Hall.
