Computer Whisperer closes for love
A Huntingburg business will be closing its doors for good Friday afternoon.
Owner David Smith is moving to southern Ohio to be with his high-school sweetheart and fiancé, Stephanie Smith. He plans on opening a similar store in Ohio.
“You allowed me to take the dream of being a business owner and turn it into a reality, and I’m very grateful for the experience,” David said in a Facebook post announcing the closure. “Thank you for welcoming us with open arms and allowing us to become a part of the community.”
Computer Whisperer has been a popular spot for computer repairs and advice since 2011 when David decided to open the store at 403 E. Fourth Street. Previously, David had operated from his Gentryville home and made housecalls to repair his customers’ computer problems. This is a practice he continued even after opening the storefront.
Since opening, David has assisted in several efforts to broaden the appeal of Huntingburg and Fourth Street. He is currently a board member on the Huntingburg Chamber of Commerce board of directors. His technical expertise was critical in adding WiFi to over two blocks of Fourth Street through support of the City of Huntingburg, Chamber of Commerce and Huntingburg Foundation.
The store will be open Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a moving sale.
