Crash partially closes SR56 for three hours

A semi truck and trailer turnover partially closed State Road 56 just east of Dubois Road for about three hours Thursday morning.

Larry E. Thomas, 51, of Orange County, was westbound on SR56 in a 1989 Peterbuilt tractor and trailer hauling a load of corn at about 11:26 a.m. As he exited the curve in the road, the truck and trailer turned over and continued off the roadway before striking a utility pole. It stopped on its side.

Thomas was able to exit the vehicle and was not injured.

A witness following the truck and trailer told police it was not speeding. Police believe the corn shifted in the trailer and caused the crash.

The tractor and trailer were considered total losses.

The Dubois Volunteer Fire Department, Memorial Hospital Emergency Management Services and wreckers from Storks and Ruxer Ford Lincoln assisted.
