Police believe a Jasper man crashed Monday afternoon due to a medical condition.
According to police, the 69-year-old was operating a 2000 Oldsmobile Bravada at about 3:19 p.m. when he nearly struck a police officer stopped on Newton Street at the 13th Street intersection.
The officer activated his lights and sirens but the driver continued northbound at speeds in excess of 90 mile per hour, police said. He continued through the 15th Street intersection and then ran off the left side of the road striking two large trees before stopping.
The Bravada was considered a total loss and the driver was taken to Memorial Hospital.
