Dance for Life Strassenfest flash mob video
A large crowd gathered at the Main Stage at the Strassenfest on Saturday expecting a surprise. And they were surprised when the strains of Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive” began to float over them. Suddenly they were staring at bright green, orange, blue, pink and yellow shirts labeled “Dance for Life” donned by about 140 people who spontaneously started to dance.
It was a big surprised. So big a secret, one spectator said he was surprised at how many people he personally knew in the flashmob that hadn’t revealed it to him. In fact, the speculation over what the big surprise was fired a rumor that Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney would be visiting. He was in Evansville Saturday fundraising, but as one police officer noted, the only information they had about Romney stopping in came from rumors on Facebook.
Watch closely and you will see the Strassenfest Chair Meredith Voegerl boogie down.
The event was an inspiration from Janet Beckman. She was joined by Missy Krempp, who choreographed the dance. Planning began in the spring after the idea started to gain popularity and by July they were practicing their dance moves three times a week at Health Pointe and the Cabby O’Neill gymnasium in Jasper.
The event was to help raise money for Reagan Hopf and Emily Truelove. Reagan is the 3-year-old daughter of Adam and Lisa Hopf. She was diagnosed recently with AML, which is a form of leukemia. A benefit dinner is being held on August 26th to raise funds for Reagan’s medical expenses. An account named the Reagan Hopf Benefit is open for donations at Old National Bank as well.
Emily Truelove is battling ALL Leukemia and is the 6-year-old daughter of Sara Truelove. Emily Truelove donations may be made to Sara Truelove c/o Fifth-Third Bank, 305 S Hwy 231.
Rumor has it that there are more “flashes” planned at future events in the area.
Emily Truelove donations may be made to: Sara Truelove c/o Fifth-Third Bank, 305 S Hwy 231, Jasper Thank you.
