Daughters of Isabella November meeting minutes

Daughters of Isabella Jasper Circle #140 held their monthly meeting on Monday, November 13, at 6:30 p.m. in Room 301 at the St. Joseph Parish Center in Jasper.  The meeting was called to Order by Regent Kathy Schneider.  Chancellor Bev Himsel read the opening prayer.  Members stood and recited the Pledge to the Flag.  Draping of the Charter was held for recently deceased member Rose Killian.  Members sang the song “Peace if Flowing Like a River” after the ceremony.

Regent Schneider called forward Lynn Bohnert. Lynn was then installed into the Circle as our new Auditor.  She joins Auditors Sharon Gramelspacher and Pam Howard on the Board.

Vice Regent Marge Beckman read an article on the Sacrament of Reconciliation from the Spiritual Reflection Guide. She read that we strive to love others and forgive others.  We prepare for the Sacrament of Reconciliation by charting a better path.

Regent Schneider invited members to offer a special prayer request, and prayers were said for these requests.

Secretary Pam Schneider called the roll of officers and read the minutes from the October meeting. They were approved as read.

Treasurer Rose Rasche read the report of the Treasurer. The information was submitted for audit.

A letter was read from Junior Achievement requesting a donation.  The Circle granted their request.

Scribe Kathy Bachman read Resolutions on the death of Rose Killian.  A copy of these resolutions will be forwarded to the bereaved family, and a copy of the same will be inscribed upon the records of the organization.

Quarterly Reports followed.  Financial Secretary Betty Mehringer reported the Circle had five deaths in the quarter and took in 2 new members.  The Circle has a total of 297 members.  Treasurer Rose Rasche gave the quarterly Report of the Treasurer.  The Auditors reported that the books are in order.  The next board meeting will be February 12, 2024, at 5:00 pm, in Room 301 in the St. Joseph Parish Center.

Vice Regent Beckman reported on the Visitation of the Sick.  In October, the team of Sue Seal, Marilyn Jahn, Ruth Rowekamp, Linda Erny, Marilyn Schnaus and Donna Welp visited members in the nursing homes.  The visiting team will be Jane Schaeffer, Doretha Wilz and Martha Matthews in November.  December will be Kathy Schneider and Marge Beckman.

The Prayer for increasing membership to the Daughters of Isabella was said.

Scribe Kathy Bachman sent out publicity for the upcoming Christmas Dinner due to the early deadline for the churches’ bulletins for the Thanksgiving holiday.

The Prayer for Youth was said.

Under Unfinished Business, the Christmas Dinner information and duties assigned for the dinner were announced.  The D of I Christmas Dinner will be on Monday, December 11, at St. Joseph Parish Center.  Doors will open at 5:30 pm; the meal will be served at 6:30 p.m.  The dinner will be fried chicken, D of I dressing, and all the fixings.  The cost is $10.  Reservations must be made by November 27.  Call Kathy Schneider at 812-309-9108 or Betty Mehringer at 812-482-3661.  Dues may also be paid.  They are $20.  The Free Will Offering will be collected and will go to Anderson Woods.  D of I members will staff the tables and be available by the 5:30 opening of the doors.

Regent Schneider thanked all who helped with the recent Dressing Fundraiser.  The fundraiser was a great success.  She also thanked those who purchased dressing.

The D of I will again help with the Bingo at the Moose on November 14.

Regent Schneider and Vice Regent Beckman attended the Fall Meeting of the D of I in October.  Our Circle donated gift cards for St. Elizabeth’s Home and Coleman Center.  The ladies announced that our Circle again will assist a family at the Center at Christmas.  The family comprises the mother and 13 and 14-year-old boys. Members volunteered to purchase items listed for the family.  If anyone would like to donate gas cards or other items for the mother, contact Kathy Schneider. Items should be brought to the Christmas dinner on the 11th.  Please do not wrap things up. 

D of I members Kathy Schneider, Chris Schuetter, Mary Jo Hart, and Kathy Bachman helped decorate for the Religious Appreciation Dinner.  Kathy Schneider reported that the guest speaker was excellent. The Knights of Columbus thanked the Circle for our help.

No Correspondence was received from the state.

Lynn Bohnert announced that the Liturgical Committee at St. Joseph Church in Jasper is having a Food Drive for the Community Food Bank at Thanksgiving.  She will need help to take the food bags to the Parish Center.

During Lent, the Circle will again help with the Way of the Cross and prepare soups for the program to follow.  We are responsible for March 15.

Financial Secretary Mehringer read the receipts of the meeting.  The Birthday Prize did not go out.  Diane Klein won the meeting raffle prize.

The meeting was adjourned, the closing prayer was said, and all sang the closing song.

The next meeting will be the Christmas Dinner on Monday, December 11.
