Deputies warn residents of suspicious activities/car theft

The Dubois County Sheriffs Department is warning residents to be on the lookout for an individual going through vehicles in the St. Anthony and St. Marks area.

The department responded to a report of suspicious activity in that area at about 9 a.m. Monday and identified a male individual possibly going through vehicles looking for items to steal. Police suspect he could also be looking to steal a vehicle.

“We really feel this individual is looking for a vehicle to steal,” Sergeant Stuart Wilson stated.

They declined to release his identity at this time but added he was wearing a brown Carhartt jacket and jeans when he was last seen. They do not know his whereabouts at this time.

The department is reminding residents that it is always a good idea to never leave their keys in their vehicles and to always lock their vehicles.

Residents are also being asked to be vigilant for suspicious activity.

Anyone with information on this incident or who has seen suspicious activities is asked to contact the sheriff’s department at 812-482-3522.
