Dubois County Democrats cancel public meetings

DuCoDem Party Chair Mike Kendall announced Wednesday the Democratic Party is canceling all “public meetings” for at least the next 30 to 60 days.

They include, most immediately, the March 25th “DuCoDem Public Event,” featuring Democrat Indiana Attorney General Candidates, Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel of Evansville and State Senator Karen Tallian (Distr. 4); the monthly DuCoDem Steering Committee meeting scheduled for Saturday, March 28th; and the monthly “First Thursday” DuCoDem Party meeting scheduled for Thursday, April 2nd.

In addition, the Democratic Headquarters at 402 East 13th Street, Jasper, will be closed until further notice.

Kendall said the cancellations are in recognition of state and federal guidelines regarding public meeting sizes (10 people), social distancing, isolation, and hygiene to slow down the timing, spread, and scale of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“DuCoDem monthly public event meetings have attracted between 100 and 50 people, our steering committee consists of 20 people, and our First Thursday party meetings vary from 25-50 attendees,” he said.

Instead, Kendall said the DuCoDem Party will conduct the March 28th steering committee meeting electronically, at its usual time, 10 a.m., Saturday, March 28th. He also said the communications and the IT and data divisions are looking into holding the April 2nd Party meeting live on Facebook.

The DuCoDem Party also will keep members and the public updated through the Dubois Democrats and Young Democrats Facebook pages, their Blogs, all print and radio media, Email, and all other communication vehicles available. “We are trying to mitigate the COVID-19 spread, ‘make lemonade out of lemons,’ and ensure “social distancing” doesn’t become “social disintegration,” concluded Kendall.
