A Dubois County Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit intercepted a shipment of marijuana heading to Jasper woman Friday.
In the second interception today, K-9 Karma and her handler Deputy Jesus Monarrez were contacted by Master Trooper Brian LaRoche to visit a local shipping company to investigate for possible shipments of narcotics. After Karma indicated on a suspicious package, officers obtained a search warrant and found the box to contain nearly one pound of marijuana wrapped with coffee beans.
Just before 10:00 a.m. Friday, officers delivered the package to 802 Hasenour Avenue in Jasper. An officer was met at the door by 49-year-old Amaleah Black-Smiley. When asked, Black-Smiley identified herself by a different name, but the same name listed as the intended recipient of the package. After taking delivery of the box, Black-Smiley was placed in custody.
Black-Smiley was charged with Class B misdemeanor possession of marijuana and transported to the Dubois County Security Center.
