Dubois County Museum programming for Nov. and Dec.

The Dubois County Museum announced these programs for the remainder of the 2021 year.

Thursday, November 18 – Two programs on one night. 5:30-8:00 p.m. Free Admission Refreshments will be served.

“Home Economics in Dubois County” exhibit opens.  Come view the new exhibit on Home Economics and Home Extension clubs. Mingle with present and former members of local Home Extension Clubs that were sponsored by the Dubois County Purdue Extension Office.  (November 18) Opening of the Christmas season at the museum.  For the 2021 Festival of Trees the theme is Community and Cultural Connections. See over eighteen trees in the Festival in Room Three from communities and organizations.  View over thirty trees additionally placed and decorated around the museum.  Feel warm and fuzzy as you view a temporary display in Room One called “Home for the Holidays”.  The display invites you to step inside a 1920’s scene from Dubois County.  Continue around the over 50,000 square feet of exhibits and enjoy the bright and colorful holiday decorations, the Santa collection gifted to the museum by Kay Smock and our new photo booth.  It is a chance to get your family together for a photo opportunity in front of the Eckert Log House and climbing into the Eckert wooden sleigh built by Anton Eckert around 1890. 

Saturday, December 4 the museum sponsors “A Child’s Christmas”.  The program will be from 12-4:00 p.m. Santa arrives at the museum from 12-2pm for visits and pictures. A wide variety of crafts and games will be available. Each child will receive a goody bag.  From 3:00-4:00p.m. stay and enjoy the sweet sounds of violins with the students of Strings.  Make a reservation for “A Child’s Christmas” with the museum volunteers by November 30 by calling 812-634-7733. List name, phone number and number of adults and children coming. Cost of the program is admission into the museum.  Pay at the door. Adults are $5, high school students are $3, and all children under high school age are $2 this day for this program to offset expenses.

On Saturday, December 11 from 10-2 p.m. and Sunday, December 12 from 1-3p.m. museum volunteers and the ladies of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority will host a Cookie Walk. Come in and choose cookies from the variety of treats available. Cost is determined by weight.

December 16 – Christmas Time.  Come in and enjoy a relaxing evening at the museum from 5:30- 8:00 p.m.  Free Admission. View the museum in its holiday brightness.  Refreshments served.

Thursday, January 6-  Kings Day  Celebrating the coming of the Kings to the manger.

Ongoing at the museum are Tai Chi classes held every Tuesday night from 6:30-7:30pm. New members are always welcome.  

Walking the Museum continues for fitness walking.  Members free for walking, $1 for others.
Memberships is available for the year.  Memberships grant free admission to museum and discounts on Gift Shop items. Good for one year after date of purchase.
