Eldena East, 86, of Jasper, formerly of Hennessey, Ok., received her angel wings on October 3, 2021, at The Timbers of Jasper.
She was born July 23, 1935, in Martin County to William “Bill” and Sophie (Ziegler) Street. She grew up and attended school in the same area.
On January 2, 1954, she married the love of her life, Theodore “Ted” Maxwell East in Bloomington, Indiana. They raised two daughters Debbie and Karen in Indiana and Arkansas. In 1975, Ted and Eldena moved to Waukomis, Oklahoma and Eldena went to work at the Enid State School (NORCE) and she helped Ted run the family scrap metal business from their home. Eldena retired from NORCE in 1995.
In 2003 she moved to Birdseye to be closer to her family there. In 2011, due to declining health and her battle with Alzheimer’s was just beginning, Eldena moved into the Timbers of Jasper. She was loved by all the staff and made many memories while living there.
Eldena was preceded in death by her husband, Ted and her parents, and brother Bill Street.
She is survived by her daughters, Debbie (David) Wright of Birdseye and Karen (Al) Wulffenstein of Enid, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Angel, Billy and Gary Don of Oklahoma and Larry and Julie Watkins of Indiana; 15 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Norman (Suzanne) Street of Indianapolis and Ann (Dave) Williams of Jasper; and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation was chosen according to her wishes. A family service will be held at a later date in Waukomis Oklahoma Cemetery, where she will be buried with her husband.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
