Energy reduction seminars planned at VUJC

VU Jasper in cooperation with Purdue University Technical Assistance Program will offer seminars on how industry can reduce energy costs and improve power factor to reduce electrical bills.

Demand Management will be held Wednesday, November 1, from 8AM  to noon. In this seminar, companies will learn how to  reduce energy costs by reducing their peak electricity demand each month. Utilities encourage this with different tariff structures and financial incentives. Attendees of this workshop will learn how to measure, monitor and control peak energy use as well as understand how their energy consumption profile impacts their bottom line. The workshop also covers:

  •    Units of electrical measure and utility billing
  •    How to cost justify reductions in peak demand
  •    Utility tariff components and how they impact your costs
  •    Which systems impact peak demand
  •    How to adjust your load profile and control peak demand
  •    The pros and cons of different types of distributed generation

The fee is $99 and includes all materials.

Fundamentals of Power Factor will be held Wednesday, November 1, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Low power factor is expensive and can be damaging to many systems. By attending this half-day workshop, participants will learn how improving power factor will reduce electrical bills and increase electrical system’s capacity. Topics covered include:

  • Measuring and calculating power factor
  • Causes of low power factor
  • How power factor can impact utility charges
  • Calculating energy cost savings
  • Installing capacitance
  • Reducing harmonic

The fee is $99 and includes all materials.
