Ferdinand police warn businesses of lottery ticket thefts

The Ferdinand Police Department is investigating a case of an individual stealing lottery tickets from at least two businesses Sunday.

Officers were called to the south side Circle A at 460 Main Street at about 10:30 a.m. where an individual allegedly switched scratched lottery tickets for unused ones. According to police, the clerk reported the individual was only in the store for about six minutes and the clerk was distracted by the suspect when the switch was made.

During that time, two tickets worth about $100 were taken.

They also learned the individual was suspected of a similar theft from the Checkers in Dale the same day.

Spencer County Sheriff’s Department notified the Ferdinand Police Department of the incident in Dale to ensure other businesses were made aware of the incidents involving businesses that sell lottery tickets.

The investigation is ongoing and no other information was made available regarding the incidents.
