Festival of Trees features military theme; Opens at museum Thursday

The grand opening of the Festival of Trees at the Dubois County Museum on 2704 N. Newton Street (US 231N) in Jasper will be the evening of Thursday, November 16th.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. with viewing of the trees from 5:30 to 6:00 p.m. The Theme for the Festival of Tree this year is Christmas with our Veterans. The program will be held beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the log house area. Several
veterans have been invited to share their Christmas memories of while they were serving in the military.

Veterans scheduled to speak are Steve and Darlene Merkley, Tom Merkley, and Ray Larkin. Rafe Schaefer will share a
poem he has written.

Following the memories, Francisco Lioveras, exceptional singer and music director at St. Francis of Assisi parishes in Spencer County, will return for the third year and present a variety of Christmas music favorites, concluding with his singing of Oh Holy Night.

Refreshments will be served and a drawing will be held for prizes. The museum is making this event free to the public this year.

As the Festival of Trees a special tribute will be given to our servicemen and women, active or retired in the form of decorated Christmas Trees.

Trees will be set up in Exhibit Room III and interested families and organizations will be decorating them with a military focus.
