Former deputy sheriff announces bid for Senate District 48

Jeff Hill of Princeton and former Gibson County Deputy Sheriff will be the Democrat candidate for State Senate District 48 which includes Gibson, Pike, Dubois, Spencer, Crawford, and Perry counties in the general election in November.

Mark Messmer of Dubois County is the current office holder.

“I am running,” Hill stated, “because we need someone in the Statehouse that will truly represent all the people in District 48.  From English to Jasper, Tell City, Rockport, Petersburg, and Princeton, I will be their voice in the Statehouse.”

Hill has spent his entire professional life in law enforcement. For 35 years, Jeff served on the force of the Gibson County Sheriff’s Department, including 21 years as a School Resource and DARE officer in Gibson County schools.

After retirement in 2019, he went on to work for the Oakland City police department where he still serves as a police officer. Hill is also a certified instructor at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, and an IHSAA basketball and football official and is currently a member of the Teamsters Union, Local 215.

Jeff’s involvement in community service includes former Chairman of Gibson County Red Ribbon Committee, as well as Director of Emergency Management Services and President of the Board of Directors for the Gibson County Council on Aging.

Jeff and his wife Amy have five daughters and twelve grandchildren. They are members of the Princeton St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, and Jeff is a Fourth Degree Knight at the Knights of Columbus 1131 in Princeton.

“I have lived by the police motto To Serve and Protect,” said Hill, “and as State Senator, I will serve and protect the people of Southwest Indiana.”

  1. Good Luck Mr. Hill. It is certain that Mark Messmer represents the interests of big business and the utilities more than he does the people of his district.

  2. Mr. Hills quote:
“I am running,” Hill stated, “because we need someone in the Statehouse that will truly represent all the people in District 48. From English to Jasper, Tell City, Rockport, Petersburg, and Princeton, I will be their voice in the Statehouse.”
This would be wonderful if it really happens! Many, many candidates have said this in the past too!

  3. I’m for you Jeff! You can put a sign in my yard any day! I usually dont delve into politics but I trust this man. I have known him for more years that I can count.

  4. I would like to know your stance on many issues, especially on the proposed mid states corridor. I would hope you would represent the people and remove the idea of the RDAs, and give us, the people, the right to vote in referendums again. Be our voice! Represent the people!

  5. 21 years as a DARE officer means he spent two decades pursuing total failure: DARE programs have been proven repeatedly to be absolutely ineffective in lowering teen drug use. He has no policies other than “I used to be a cop”, which he knows will be good for votes from the ungulate herd, and wants to sail into retirement still plump and happy from slurping at the taxpayer spigot. No wonder this country is such a joke: the herd loves its incompetent clowns who think they’re the smartest bovine in the pasture.

    1. This was an announcement about Mr Hill running for office. You can’t
claim he running only on his law enforcement career, because he is just announcing his entry into the race. He will discuss his position on issues soon. Jeff will be speaking at a Democrat event on July 23rd. Look for an announcment soon for the details. As far as DARE goes, it is a program that helps kids have a positive experience with police officers. Most kids in elementary school love it.

  6. Jeff Hill is firmly against the Mid States Corridor. He is from Gibson County, so he has lived through the I-69 mess, and is committed to improving what we have and making our roads better. Who could have more knowledge that a law enforcement officer on how to improve roads and make them better and safer for everyone. Jeff will be someone we can all support.

  7. If someone has a website or email address for Mr. Hill, please post it. He has supporters, including myself, from Jasper that would like to help him. Thanks!

  8. I am a little concerned that being Catholic he will be against women’s health rights. I am not asking his stance on abortion – that is not the issue and sadly many are making it that. The issue is women’s right to complete health care without government interference. Looking forward to hearing more about Mr. Hill and certainly glad he is against the Mid States Corridor!!

    1. Mark Messmer is Catholic and believes strongly about what they think is in the bible.

      1. But he takes away people’s rights in forming the RDA, our right to vote, as an American citizen on public projects? (Takes away Referendums, that is not very Christian, as everyone should have a voice)

    2. Iam concerned for the unborn child Iam catholic too!! Medical I can see but a one night stand I can’t period
