Fred Hemmer, age 85, of Stendal, Indiana, went to be with his Lord Thursday, December 20, 2012 at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

He was born June 9, 1927 in Lockhart Township on the family farm in Pike County, Indiana to Frank and Alma (Steinkamp) Hemmer. He was united in marriage to Luella Peters on July 20, 1952 at Salem Church in Huntingburg.

Fred was a dairy farmer and worked as a Performance Supervisor for Pike County F.S.A. for many years. Fred and his wife, Luella, enjoyed singing at gospel sings, revivals and nursing homes. He was a lay speaker, a Sunday school teacher, and served on many boards at Zoar United Methodist Church where he was a life-long member. He enjoyed reading and studying the Bible; and led church services for The Waters of Huntingburg Nursing Home.

Fred was a perfect example of what we can be if we let God in our hearts. Fred was an inspiration to all he met and touched so many hearts and lives. With his quiet humor, remarkable kindness, and above all unyielding faith, he lived a life that through actions taught us how to love not only each other but above all else his first love, which is God.
