Glen Brock Brittain, 98, Jasper

Glen Brock Brittain, 98, of Jasper, passed away at 6:50 a.m. Saturday, August 12, 2017, at the Timbers of Jasper.
Glen was born in Saunemin, Illinois on May 4, 1919 to Earl and Alta Susan (Yates) Brittain. He was a graduate of Otwell High School Class of 1937.
In 1941, Glen enlisted in the U.S. Army and served the duration of World War II under General George S. Patton as a combat engineer with the 17th Armored Engineer Battalion, part of “Hell on Wheels” – 2nd Armored Division in the European Theatre. Glen participated in several major battles including the North African Invasion, the Sicily Invasion, and the Normandy Invasion landing on Omaha Beach. Glen was awarded two purple heart medals for combat injuries both occurring while fighting in Germany. In 2004 he was awarded the VFW living hero award.
His combat history has been recorded by the Veterans History Project and can be found in the Library of Congress in Washington D.C.
He married Betty Boger on March 2, 1946 in Washington, Ind.
Glen was a member of Jasper VFW Post #673, and Shiloh United Methodist Church in Jasper, IN.
He was a lifelong farmer in Boone Township where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and spending time outdoors.
Surviving is his wife, Betty Brittain of Jasper; two daughters, Glenda Wagner (Steve) of Jasper and Brenda McDonnell (Terry) of Lancaster, S.C.; one son, Greg Brittain of New Palestine, Ind.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Geneva Himsel of Jasper.
Preceding him in death was one daughter, Linda Brittain; one daughter-in-law, Vicki Brittain; one grandchild, Chad McDonnell; and one sister, Alberta Mae Brittain who died in infancy.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 19, 2017, at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Jasper, with Rev. Dan Sinkhorn and Pastor Paul Alvey officiating. Burial to follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Petersburg. The Jasper VFW post #673 will conduct military gravesite rites.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shiloh United Methodist Church, the Jasper VFW Post #673, or the Honor Flight of Southern Indiana.
