Great Wall reopens after fire
The Great Wall Chinese Restaurant reopened on July 1 after a fire closed the restaurant Sunday, June 18.
Lunch was interrupted at the restaurant located at 272 Brucke Strasse that day when smoke began filling the entrance to the dining room.
Everyone was evacuated but the restaurant suffered minor damages to a wall in the kitchen from a grease fire. According to Jasper Fire Chief Kenny Hochgesang at the time, it appeared that grease build-up between some fryers and a wall in the kitchen overheated and caught fire causing smoke to travel up into the attic and into the dining area.
The Jasper Volunteer Fire Department responded with 28 firefighters and five engines. They were on scene about an hour and 15 minutes. Jasper Police Department, Dubois County Sheriff’s Department and Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services also responded.
