Heavy rain blamed for crash that sent two to hospital

Two people were taken to Memorial Hospital with injuries Tuesday after a vehicle hydroplaned and crashed during the heavy rain.

Taylor Oeding, 21, of Jasper, was westbound on Schnellville Road southeast of Jasper at about 1:50 p.m. when his 1998 Toyota Corolla hydroplaned. The Corolla went off the road and struck an embankment twice before stopping.

Oeding and his passenger, Brieanna Geiger, 21, of Schnellville, were both transported to Memorial Hospital by ambulance. Oeding complained of pain to his head and shortness of breath. Geiger complained of pain to her hip.

The Corolla was considered a total loss.

Celestine First Responders, Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services and a Sternbergs’ wrecker assisted.
