Huntingburg store connected to red-carpet film premiere featuring original Buffy the Vampire Slayer

When several stars of a new film made in northern Indiana walk down the red carpet for its premiere Friday evening, they’ll have a Huntingburg business to thank for looking great.

Beth and Earl Carter, owners of BC Exquisite Bridal and Formal Wear in Huntingburg, as well as employee Lauren Sergesketter, will be heading up to Elkhart this Friday to take part in the red-carpet premiere of the independent film “Crowning Jules.” The three have a special invitation to take part in the premiere of the independent film because several of the cast and production crew will be wearing tuxedos and gowns supplied from the store on Fourth Street.

The historic Lerner Theatre of Elkhart is hosting the red-carpet event for the world premiere of the film co-produced by South Bend-area natives Lisa Varga and Lucas Miles. The film follows twins Jules and Madison Kelly on their road trip to Boston. Jules is heading to a once-in-a-lifetime Harvard admissions interview, and Madison has a beauty pageant to win. The two are at odds with each other and end up running into trouble after getting mixed up with some dangerous jewel thieves.

The film stars Kristy Swanson, who played Buffy the Vampire Slayer in the Joss Whedon (of Avengers fame) written 1992 film. Kevin Farley (sibling to Chris Farley) and Kenton Duty, who starred in Lost as the young Jacob and was a Disney Channel star, are also in the film.

But also cast was Mrs. Indiana 2017 Mekayla Eppers (formerly Diehl) a friend of Lauren’s who met her while competing for Miss Indiana last year.

“We connected through pageants,” Lauren explained. “And she posted something about the movie because of her guest appearance in it so I asked if there was anyone she could connect us with in the production.”

According to Lauren, the Huntingburg business has been considering getting into supplying gowns and tuxedoes for red-carpet affairs such as a movie premiere.

“She was excited and introduced me to Lucas Miles, the producer,” she said. “He was a super, super nice guy and he worked up a list of people we could possibly dress.”

Through that connection, a couple of the cast and crew, including Swanson, Miles and Varga, decided to work with BC Exquisite Bridal and Formal Wear.

“We are pretty excited about dressing Swanson,” said Lauren, who admitted the Buffy the Vampire Slayer film came out before she was born.

The Huntingburg store will be recognized at the premiere before the film runs. According to Beth, being able to be featured at the premiere is a great opportunity for the business, one they have been seeking out, and she credited Lauren for working to make it a reality.
