Jasper JC Penney closure moved to later date

Jasper’s JC Penney store won’t close as quickly as originally reported.

A company spokesperson said the company has “seen better than expected sales and traffic, which is common when store closures are announced.”

“Traffic typically increases in closing store locations for a variety of reasons, including curiosity, nostalgia and the lure of lower prices,” the company released in a press release. “Meanwhile, it’s advantageous for the company to continue selling through spring and summer merchandise at current promotional levels by pushing liquidation back another month.”

The Jasper location was one of 138 originally slated to close in June. Now those stores won’t close until the end of July.
