John Douglas Mehne, 72, formerly of Jasper, passed away Thursday, September 16, 2021, at his home in Corpus Christi, Texas.
He was a graduate of the Jasper High School class of 1967.
Growing up, he enjoyed working on the family farm. He enlisted in the Navy and served during the Vietnam War. His last assignment before his honorable discharge in 1974 was in the Philippines.
John went on to receive his BS degree in the honors program in contracting and construction from Purdue University in 1978.
John married Catherine Dilger in 1975, and they were married for 42 years. They moved to Corpus Christi, TX, in 1978 where John ran his own commercial construction business for 30 years. His most “special” project in Corpus Christi was the installation of the sculpture “Orion’s Belt” consisting of the three 55-foot wind vanes on Shoreline Boulevard. He retired from construction in 2016.
John enjoyed fishing in the Gulf, golfing, and spending time with family and friends.
John was preceded in death by his father, Edwin John Mehne.
He is survived and will be lovingly remembered by his mother, Dorothy Mehne; his sister, Beth Cooper (Jack); his former wife, Catherine Mehne; his daughters, Lauren King (Sean) and Lindsey Mehne; and his granddaughter, Ella King; as well as many beloved brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A small memorial to include close relatives will be held at a later date.
