Joseph B. Wagner, age 83 of Jasper passed away at 1:00 p.m. Thursday (March 1, 2012) at his home.

He was born at St. Anthony, Indiana on April 15, 1928 to Wendel and Magdalena (Burke) Wagner. He married Claretta Vogler on April 18, 1953 in Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper.

Joe was a Korean Army Veteran and had operated the Wagner Sunoco Service in Jasper, he also drove a school bus for the greater Jasper School System for 20 years.

He is a charter member of Precious Blood Catholic Church – former member of Precious Blood Men’s Choir – Precious Blood Men’s Sodality – Jasper Knights of Columbus – St. Vincent DePaul Society and American Legion Post # 147 in Jasper.

He was the recipient of the Brute Award of the Diocese of Evansville.

He coached several girls softball and boys baseball teams many years.

He enjoyed working outdoors and doing puzzles and genealogy. He also drove the Older American Citizens Van for the City of Jasper and the SIRS Van for five years.

  • John Wagner, Jasper, IN
  • Michael W. Wagner and spouse Jane, Jasper, IN
  • Mark Wagner and spouse Michelle, Indianapolis, IN

12 grandchildren and 3 step-grandchildren and four great grandchildren – one step great grandson.

Two sisters,

  • Elizabeth Schmitt, Ireland, IN
  • Mary Gruenke, Sheboygan, WI

Preceding him in death is one sister, Agnes Schmitt and brothers; Alois, Anthony (Tony) Richard and Maurice Wagner and Joseph Nicholas Wagner who died in infancy.

Funeral services for Joseph Wagner will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday (March 5, 2012) in Precious Blood Catholic Church with entombment in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum in Jasper. American Legion Post # 147 wil conduct military grave side rites.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Sunday (March 4, 2012) at the Becher-kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.

Memorial contributions may b e made to Precious Blood Catholic Church or to a favorite charity.
