Joseph R. “Joe” Reuber, 70, of Jasper, passed away at 6:56 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2020, in Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper after receiving a lung transplant due to a battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
Joe was born in Washington, Indiana, on February 16, 1950, to Robert and Katherine (Turk) Reuber. His first marriage was to Phyllis Foster. She preceded him in death in 2006. He married Becky Borrell Dunn on December 22, 2010, in Deming, New Mexico.
He was a 1968 graduate of Jasper High School. Joe was a master sergeant in the United States Marine Corps from 1967-1988, serving during the Vietnam Era. He was stationed in Iwakuni, Japan, El Toro, California, Cubi Point, Philippines, Perris Island, South Carolina, Cherry Point, North Carolina, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, and Beaufort, South Carolina. He worked in aviation ground support and was a C-130 in-flight engineer for in-flight refueling. He was also a production control chief, quality assurance chief, drill instructor, individual material readiness list (IMRL) chief and an aircraft support equipment chief.
After retiring from the Marine Corps, he worked in property management in Laguna Hills, California, with Irvine Property Management being the largest company for which he worked. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, American Legion Post #147, and the Marine Corps League. Joe enjoyed going RV’ing and four-wheeling and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Becky Reuber of Jasper; two children, Joe Reuber Jr. of Post Falls, Idaho, and Nicole Reuber of Boise of Idaho; four step-children, Courtney (Duane) Thewes of Celestine, Phillip (Amanda) Dunn of Huntingburg, Libby Nehmer of Jasper, and Warren (Amanda) Dunn of Schnellville; 19 grandchildren; one sister, Sara Reuber; two brothers, Clint (Stacy) Reuber of Jasper and Mike (Pat) Reuber of Wadesville.
Preceding him in death besides his parents and first wife, is one sister, Diane Reuber.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph R. “Joe” Reuber will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2020, in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper. The American Legion Post #147 will conduct military gravesite rights.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 31, 2020, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, Indiana.
