Kimball International’s Michelle Schroeder – Indianapolis Business Journal CFO of the Year

Kimball International announced that Chief Financial Officer Michelle Schroeder was recognized by the Indianapolis Business Journal as the CFO of the Year for Public Companies.

“Michelle has provided tremendous leadership and many contributions over the past 29 years at Kimball International.  Michelle’s influence is felt in almost everything we do at the company. I am extremely proud of her and congratulate her on this honor,” said Bob Schneider, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, Kimball International.

Indianapolis Business Journal (IBJ) launched its CFO of the Year recognition program a decade ago to spotlight the crucial role that top financial executives play in helping Indiana companies, government agencies and not-for-profits develop strategy and prosper.

    Definition of a CFO:
“A chief financial officer, a senior executive with responsibility for the financial affairs of a corporation or other institution.”

I would think profitability is what should matter here. If that’s the case why didn’t Derica W. Rice, the CFO of Eli Lilly, win?

The profit margin at Eli Lilly was 11% vs 5.5% at Kimball. Eli Lilly is in Indiana right? I’m sure Michelle does a fine job, but I just don’t understand the criteria I suppose.
