Letter: Riverview project will be a success
I love Spencer County. Every time I visit, I receive a welcome that embodies the character and passion of the people who live there.
In January, I had the honor of participating in the Lincolnland Economic Development Corporation’s annual meeting. I was overwhelmed with the graciousness of the more-than 300 people who attended that luncheon event. I was especially encouraged by the numerous people who approached me to express support for Riverview Energy’s direct coal-hydrogenation project.
I am immensely grateful for the public support we received for our air permit, especially the vocal and on-going support from the Dale Town Council and the Spencer County Chamber of Commerce – specifically Kathy Reinke who spoke vociferously in favor of our project at the public hearing. I also want to thank the Spencer County Commission, the Spencer County Council and the Rockport City Council for their supportive resolutions. These expressions of support are key to moving this project forward.
To those of you who steadfastly defend this project in the face of vilification from a small, uninformed and boisterous minority, you are on the right side of history. Never forget that the most ignorant among us are often the loudest.
Your voice matters, and your support matters.
You see the tremendous potential in Spencer County. You see the good that this project will bring to the region for generations to come. You understand the future that can be built together – one of vision, prosperity and growth. Let the invective embolden you – because you already know what the opposition abhors: That this project is a winner for Dale, Spencer County and Indiana as a whole. This project is going to be an enormous success.
Each time we hear your voice I know that we selected the right community – because the people here want the same thing that Riverview Energy wants. We want to preserve what’s good and wholesome about the community, and yet bring a tremendous opportunity that will grow the community in a direction that benefits families living here now and the generations to come. We want to make Spencer County a worldwide leader in innovative and clean uses of our most abundant energy resource.
I look forward to the day when Riverview Energy becomes a permanent part of the Dale and Spencer County community, and I look forward to working shoulder to shoulder with the good people who live here.
Sincerely,
Greg Merle President Riverview Energy
You don’t have to convince us that this is going to be an “enormous success”. The project will do that on it’s own, won’t it?
Greg where are you getting the money to do this project?
You are sounding a little desperate Mr. Merle. And do you really thnk the people of Huntingburg will agree to drink your waste water?
I bet Greg Merle is in the process of moving to Huntingburg RIGHT NOW because he believes in this SO MUCH!
Mr. Blair, stop it with the silly questions. We have these facilities that treat waste water and turn it into some of the finest drinking water in SW Indiana. Huntingburg has one, Jasper has one and Santa Claus has one. Evansville’s water comes from the Ohio River. Runoff water from six states dumps into the Ohio River. Perhaps you should worry about your own drinking water. Your water in Evansville is perfectly fine after it’s been cleaned. Of course Evansville’s water doesn’t score as high as the fine water in Dubois County but hey it is drinkable.
Quit fear mongering and debate honestly Mr. Blair.
BTW, why does Mr. Merle have to reveal his financial sources to you or anybody. Riverview is a privately owned company and is not required to reveal how it would fund it’s private business. I’m sure in do time, venture capital companies will be boasting publicly their financial participation in Riverview Energy or perhaps Mr. Merle will right a check for the entire construction, either way, it won’t be underwritten by the taxpayers in Indiana like the power plants you supported with Vectren. That’s on you.
Perhaps you would care to reveal your financial supporters of Valley Watch and who will be financing the future lawsuits your groups will be filing? Now who is not being transparent?
