So, you voted. Good for you. You did your civic duty.
Or did you?
Can you look at yourself in the mirror and say –
I took the time to research each candidate and find out how he/she stands on the issues. I voted for the candidates that most reflect my views.
I researched any questions, tax increase referendums, etc. and learned how they would affect my life and whether they seemed truly necessary, paying no attention to scare tactics but looking only at facts.
I went through the ballot carefully and voted accordingly, irrespective of political affiliation.
If you can say YES to these points, then congratulations – you did your job.
But if you honestly say NO to these points; if you just went in and pushed the “straight party” button without taking the time beforehand to learn about every candidate, every question on the ballot and truly consider how your vote was going to affect you, your neighbors, your state, your country; then you have done a disservice to yourself and others.
Indiana has had four years of governance by a political party, led by a tax and spend liberal masquerading as a “Republican” only to gain votes in a state that increasingly votes only for a certain political party.
But then again, only a modicum of research shows that the Indiana Republican Party is hardly the tax-cutting party of Ronald Reagan. This is a country club, establishment, big business party that believes in making those who earn the least amount of money pay the most for their big government policies.
The result has not been surprising. Higher taxes and fees. Bigger government.
This, folks, is what happens when you go in and push the “straight party” button instead of taking the time to learn about candidates and issues.
If you are happy paying an extra 14 cents per gallon (and rising every year) every time you fill your tank, and more fees anytime you have to deal with the BMV, then you have the result you desired. Now get ready for more. Having easily secured re-election with 58 percent of the vote as of Wednesday morning, Eric Holcomb and the Indiana Republican Party is ready to raise more taxes and make Indiana government even bigger.
And remember, YOU voted for it.
You get exactly the government you deserve.
