Jasper native Shane Lindauer was appointed to finish Mike Braun’s term as Indiana State Representative of District 63 Monday evening during a Republican caucus held at the Jasper City Hall.

Lindauer will serve the rest of Braun’s term which would have ended in 2019.

In August, Lindauer announced his intention to run for the seat in the 2018 election but with Braun’s resignation to concentrate on his U.S. Senate run, the seat needed to be filled. Braun’s resignation is effective November 1.

District 63 includes Bainbridge, Boone, Columbia, Hall, Harbison, Madison and Marion townships in Dubois County and parts of Pike, Daviess and Martin counties.

During a caucus, candidates are given time to speak on their own behalf to the precinct committeemen and committeewomen. Afterwards, those committee members vote and the winner is named.

Lindauer and Jerry Sidebottom of Washington were the only two candidates for the seat.

Lindauer stated he has been out in the district meeting with residents already as part of his run for the office. With the appointment, he plans on getting out there more to continue those efforts.

“It is an honor to follow in the footsteps of the past two to fill this seat, State Senator Messmer and now possible U.S. Senator Braun,” Lindauer said. “I fill privileged to have the opportunity to serve and look forward to it.”

Lindauer graduated from Jasper High School in 1992. After high school, he attended Indiana State University where he graduated with a B.S. in Industrial Technology Supervision. From 1997-2005, Lindauer was a member of both the Indiana and Missouri Army National Guard. He graduated from Logan College of Chiropractic in 2004.

Since graduation, Lindauer has had experience in small business both in chiropractic private practice as well as his current position as part owner of a small family business, Jasper Salvage.

In 2010, Lindauer was elected to the Dubois County Council District 2 where he served a four-year term. He has held adjunct faculty teaching positions at Oakland City University Bedford Campus and for Ivy Tech in Evansville.

Shane and his wife Stacy currently live in Jasper with their two children.
