Local artist Laura Pommier featured at Jasper Arts Center

Hard-Landing-2Local Jasper artist Laura Pommier is the featured artist at the Jasper Arts Center’s Krempp Gallery for the month of May.

Pommier’s oil paintings and pastels consist of pieces presented for her most recent thesis exhibition with the addition of several new paintings created this year.

The subjects in Pommier’s paintings are figurative, informed by her interests of figure skating, sewing and reading. Additional imagery is inspired by her immediate surroundings and travel destinations.

“The way I present my ideas read like pages torn from a novel, where the story continues beyond the parameters of the painting,” Pommier said. “Hence the characters are often not contained resulting in sudden moves and unexplained exits.”

After living and working for over 20 years in Dubois County, Pommier decided to return to school in 2012 to pursue a Master of Arts Degree in Studio Art at Indiana State University.  She also holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Murray State University.
