Melba S. Burger, 79, of Jasper, passed away at 3:35 a.m. on Sunday, October 10, 2021, in Legacy Living in Jasper, Indiana.
Melba was born in Princeton, Indiana, on March 21, 1942, to Hershel and Hazel (Vowell) Mowery.
She married Alfred Burger on March 12, 1977. He preceded her in death on April 8, 2006.
Melba was a 1960 graduate of Mt. Carmel High school in Mt. Carmel, Illinois.
She retired in 2019 from Jasper High School, where she had worked for 13 years.
Melba loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and also loved being with her large group of friends, doing many activities and going on day long trips with them. She was an avid card player and enjoyed playing games as well.
Melba was known for her one-of-a-kind sense of humor and her final wish would be for everyone to enjoy life.
She is survived by three sons, Brian (Sherri) Patton of Ireland, Bruce Patton of Jasper, and Clint (Christy) Burger of Chandler; one daughter, Jaleigh (Adam) Long of Marietta, Ga.; one daughter-in-law, Sandy Burger of Orleans; seven grandchildren, Chris, Brent, Hagan, Darby, Peyton, Sam, and Allie; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Vera Meredith of Owasso, Ok., Janet Hill of Evansville, and Lois (Ed) Patton of Mt. Carmel, Ill.; and one brother, John (Ann) Mowery of Owasso, Ok.
Preceding her in death besides her husband are one son, Phil Burger, and two sisters, Norma Talley and Vonda Zimmerman.
A funeral service for Melba S. Burger will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 14, 2021, in Redemption Christian Church in Jasper, Indiana, with burial to follow with her husband, in St. Mary Cemetery in Ireland, Indiana.
A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, Indiana, and one hour before services at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday.
