Melvin Leon Wood, 81, Terre Haute

Melvin Leon Wood, 81, of Terre Haute, passed away Saturday, May 22, 2021, at Union Hospital.

He was born July 8, 1939, in Terre Haute to Charles F. Wood and Helen Poloney Wood. He was a retired vocational director of Twin Rivers Career Technical School.

He enjoyed camping, family activities, attending his grandchildren’s events and taping the events, Garfield Purple Eagles, watching ISU basketball, Colts, and St. Louis Cardinal games.

Melvin was a member of the German Oberlandler Club, Zora Shrine, Scottish Rite, Mosonic Lodge, and Maple Avenue United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Lybarger Wood; children, Brenda Allen (Rick) of Ferdinand, Melinda Middleton (Brad) of Terre Haute, and Kevin Wood (Michelle) of Loogootee; grandchildren, Nathan Allen (Lindsay), Tyler Allen (Amy), Abby Helton (David), Kiersten Sermersheim (Spenser), Brandon Middleton, and Kaitlyn Wood; great-grandchildren, Raegan, Sophia, Blakely, Millie and Dawson; siblings, Maryann Wood of Terre Haute, Deborah Spruill (Bob) of Terre Haute, and Charles Wood (Chris) of Beaufort, S.C.

Visitation will be held at Greiner Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 12:00 p.m. Graveside service will be held at Roselawn Cemetery following the services.
