Memorial to Fallen Heroes of the War on Terror

The traveling Fallen Heroes Memorial was put on display over the weekend at the Fourth Street entrance to Market Street Park.
The memorial is made up of 7,040 dog tags with the names of those servicemembers killed since 9-11. Each tag includes the date of their death. The 50 stars represent all Gold Star families — families who have lost sons and daughters to the War on Terror.
An opening ceremony was held Saturday morning featuring an introduction from Huntingburg Mayor Steve Schwinghamer, a talk by Local Marine CPL Eric Evitts, and “Taps” played by Indiana Senator Mark Messmer as well as patriotic music and a hymn played by bagpipes by John Smith.
