Minutes: Daughters of Isabella meets in September

Daughters of Isabella Jasper Circle #140 met for their monthly meeting on Monday, September 11, at 6:30 p.m. at the St. Joseph Parish Center in Jasper.  Regent Kathy Schneider welcomed all to the meeting.  A rosary was said to begin the evening for deceased members Lucille Doty, Shirley Eckert, Joan Pfister and Carol Schmidt.

Regent Schneider called the meeting to order. Vice Regent Marge Beckman lead the group in prayer and the Pledge of the Flag was said.  Draping of the Charter was held for Carol Schmidt.

New members Kathy Gutgsell and Stacy Helming were welcomed.

Spiritual activities were presented.  Vice Regent Beckman gave a Spiritual Reflection for the Reflection Guide on Saints Clare and Margaret Mary.  Members were invited to offer requests for prayers and prayers were offered for all requests.

Secretary Pam Schneider called the list of Officers for Roll Call.  Excused was Chancellor Bev Himsel and absent was Auditor Sharon Gramelspacher. Secretary Schneider then read the minutes from the August meeting.  They were approved as read.

Treasurer Rose Rasche gave the Report of the Treasurer and the Reading of Bills.

Secretary Schneider read for communications a Thank you note from the Dot Schnarr family and an Invitation from SIRS to attend their 55 Anniversary celebration.  A letter from Indiana State Regent Pricilla Kramer was read by Regent Schneider.  She invited ladies to attend the Fall meeting on October 22 at Oldenburg, IN. Our Circle is asked to support St. Elizabeth Colman Center by making donations of gift cards of any small amounts and up to $25.  Call Regent Schneider as soon as possible if wishing to donate or to attend the Fall Meeting.  

Congratulations was extended to Pam Schneider on being named a Brute Award honoree for St. Joseph Church.

New member candidates Kathy Gutgsell and Stacy Helming’s applications were accepted and they were welcomed into the Circle in a brief ceremony.  The Obligation was given and all participated. 

Scribe Kathy Bachman read Resolutions on the death of Carol Schmidt.  Kathy also had updated the flyer to announce the dressing sale.  She will be sending out announcements to the parishes and area press to announce it.  

Visiting members in the nursing homes in September will be Mary Sue Boeglin and Sarah Kasprzak.  Visiting in August were Carol Sanders, Sharon Sermersheim and Sue Brahm.

The Prayer for Youth was recited.

Under Old Business the Dressing Preparation was announced.  Help is needed on Wednesday, November 1 at 9:00 a.m. at Community Meals building to toast the bread and to sauté onions and celery.  On November 2 morning at 10:00 help is needed to debone the chicken and cut bread at St. Joe’s Parish Center.  On Friday, November 3 the dressing will be mixed that morning and packaged for distribution in the afternoon at St. Joe’s Parish Center.  Dressing will be sold for $20 a gallon and $12 a half gallon. Pick up for the dressing will be held from 1:00-5:00 p.m. at the south entrance of St. Joe’s Parish Center. To order your amounts, call Kathy Schneider at 812-309-9108 or Betty Mehringer at 812-482-3661.  The deadline to order is October 20.  The dressing is packaged raw, not baked, with no sage added.

The Moose Bingo Fundraiser was held on Tuesday, September 5.  

The Slate of Officers were voted upon.  State Regent Priscilla Kramer will be present for Installation of Officers at the next meeting on October 9.  A small luncheon will follow.  Regent Schneider would like to see as many members present at the meeting as possible. Officers are asked to dress appropriately.

The meeting for Spring Fling was moved to Friday, September 15.  If anyone would like to contribute a gift basket for the Spring Fling, it would be appreciated.  We have five baskets we are responsible to bring.

Under New Business the Circle was asked to again decorate for the Priest and Religious Dinner on October 24.  Those who are able to decorate are asked to meet at 11:00 a.m. at the Huntingburg Events Center.

For Good of the Order Vice Regent Beckman read from the Circle’s Constitution and Bylaws.

The Evangelization Prayer was led by Vice Regent Beckman.

Financial Secretary Betty Mehringer read the receipts from the meeting.

The meeting was adjourned following the Closing Prayer and Closing Ode.

There was not a September birthday winner.  The raffle winner was Kathy Schneider.

The next meeting will be Monday, October 9, at 6:30 p.m. in Room 301 of the St. Joseph Parish Center. Members are invited to come for the Installation of Officers for 2024-2026 and to meet Indiana State Regent Priscilla Kramer.  A reception will follow the installation ceremony.
